I've made my first YouTube video where I take on a personal reflection about talent, art, internet, and its impact on developing talent, I always liked those short history explanation videos from video games like “Metal Gear Solid”, I always wanted to make videos on YouTube with such a style, kind of like a documentary or short-movie, looks more like an essay than anything, but serves my purpose.
Here's my channel if someone sees this and wants to check it out
I usually find that people think of talent as if it was something unreachable. Some of us build our own talent, which can go beyond individuals that are naturally inclined to the same subject but aren’t putting enough effort or even trying to be better, some of them just doesn’t seem to fully comprehend the meaning of being talented, and they misinterpret it, which probably makes some people look down on themselves and their art, be it drawing, music, programming, 3D modeling, game development, etc., there are many hobbies out there, and throughout my life I typically meet people that don't want to try something new and as I listen to them and their feelings towards these things, It seems, to me, as if they are rather scared, maybe even unconsciously, and from the many of them who try to learn something they seem to love, there are individuals who can't stop comparing themselves to other artists, without realizing how wide their field might be, sometimes I wonder if they were hypothetically born in a different era far away from the internet and this modern globalized world they'd have the motivation to start learning what they always wanted to do, of course they wouldn't stop comparing themselves to other people because that's in our very nature as humans, but it feels as if the internet and modern society has increased how often this issue happens amongst the many newcomers and even advanced people in any hobby or study which would naturally make some of them feel insecure and small. I understand that from the point of view from many of us who have some experience in this realm, in my case, drawing, these things may not seem to be a huge deal since we've already gathered enough knowledge on our fields, pretty much ignoring these “beginner” matters, funnily enough after 6 years of taking my art seriously, practicing and drawing as much as I can and still not being so good at it, I still find myself going back to the very foundations and fundamentals of art, and life has taught me that even the greatest artists of history and many of the artists that we enjoy nowadays still practice the basics of art, some of them maybe not too often, but they definitely do it, it sounds pretty obvious, but I haven't thought about this before and now as I reflect about it, it feels as if I've opened another door.
When a bird is born, it doesn't immediately possess the skill of flight. Instead, it has to learn and develop this ability over time. Some bird species are naturally better suited for flight due to their physical characteristics… Just because a bird belongs to a species known for its flying prowess doesn't mean it can soar effortlessly from birth. Flight requires practice, coordination, and learning from experiences such as trial and error. Similarly, developing talent in humans requires the same path, you may say that birds are “forced” by nature to practice and improve so that they can fly, otherwise they'd die, I don't think this takes away the fact of this analogy, isn't that interesting that some birds aren’t able to fly?, and they must find their own path… Penguins are flightless, but they have adapted to thrive in their unique environment, in the icy waters of the Antarctic, their streamlined bodies, strong flippers, and dense plumage make them perfectly suited for life in the ocean, which is sort of an irony, as we see most of the birds up in the sky, I don't know much about life and I might be a melodramatic person, but I sometimes swear life tells me things and I can't just ignore them, maybe sharing my personal reflections with other people and let them be buried on the internet may be of some interest to someone, instead of just writing it all on a journal.
